January Book List

Right now while the weather is cold and wet, we spend much of our time cuddled on the couch with a warm blanket and lots of good books. Here are a few of our favorite winter stories.

Owl Moon, written by Jane Yolen, is a story about a girl and her Pa walking in the moonlight through the snow in search of owls.

Owl Babies, written by Martin Waddell, is a favorite with Thomas. It is a cute story about three owl babies that wake up to find their mother missing. They are worried about her and wonder if she will return. Of course, she does!

A family heads out for a winter walk as the first flakes of snow fall to the ground in When Winter Comes, written by Nancy Van Laan.

Winter Eyes, written by Douglas Florian, is a collection of poems about winter.

A young wolf must find the strength to survive a blizzard as he searches for his pack in The Call of the Wolves, written by Jim Murphy.

Trolls try to take Treva's dog, Tuffi, in an exciting tale titled Trouble With Trolls, written by Jan Brett.

A family takes a day off from work and school to have fun in the snow in Snow Day, written by Barbara M. Joosse.

We enjoy the Little Polar Bear stories that are written and illustrated by Hans de Beer. Some of the boys' favorites are Little Polar Bear and the Husky Pup, Little Polar Bear and the Big Balloon, and Little Polar Bear, Take Me Home.

  2. My first baby, born 4/30/89, loved Owl Moon. We checked it out of the Library so often that I finally just went and bought our own copy. He knew all the words and would read it to me. Wish I had recorded it with his little boy voice!
