Dark Hallow Falls is the easiest waterfall to walk to in Shenandoah National Park.

Little Stony Man

Our next stop on the drive was the Little Stony Man Trail. The trail is 0.9 mile round trip. The park has it listed as a fairly easy hike with some steep sections. My guess is that the person that wrote the description did not hike the trail with a toddler!

The Trail

The Appalachian Trail is 2,175 miles long. It runs from Maine to Georgia through 14 states. We stopped for a picnic lunch at Pinnacles during our drive. Part of the trail runs through the Pinnacles picnic area so we walked a short portion of it after we ate.

Yarn Along

I am joining Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along this week.

I have finished knitting a baby sweater. I just need to sew the sleeve seams, but since I do not have a little one to wear the sweater yet (we are praying for another sweet baby) I am waiting to finish it. I started a basic rib hat for Knit for Japan. It is a very simple pattern, and I should be finished with it soon.

Views From The Drive

There are 75 overlooks along Skyline Drive. To the west of the drive are spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley and to the east are stunning views of the rolling Piedmont. The maximum speed limit is 35 mph, and it is a drive that you will want to take slowly so you do not miss anything.

A Mini Vacation

The first week in May our family took a three day mini vacation. On our first day, we went to the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. We have been there many times, and it is a favorite of ours so we stopped there on our way to Front Royal, Virginia. We spent a few hours there, and then we drove to our hotel.

Daybook May 22, 2011

Outside my window... a warm spring day is turning into a cool night.

I am thinking... about how I have neglected this space the last couple of weeks. I have many things I want to post about here, but I have not made the time. I hope to make the time this week.

I am thankful for... excellent friends that still love us even after our toddler throws up at their First Communion party.

First Daybook of May

Outside my window... sunny and warm.

I am thinking... about the homeschool conference I attended this weekend. I had a great time, and I learned some new things.

I am thankful for... rich dark soil.
