Storm Water

We made it through the storm fine. We lost our internet connection for about 24 hours. The lights flickered many times, but we never lost our electric. The transom window above our front door leaked for several hours.

Waiting for Irene

For the last couple of days, we have been preparing for Hurricane Irene. We may be without power for a day or two. We have everything we need and feel confident that we will be safe in our home. We are praying for the safety of everyone along the East Coast that is in Irene's path.

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week.

I have finished the back of this little top and have just begun the front. It is very easy to knit, but I wish I had more time to spend knitting. There are just not enough hours in a day! Ha! I have been reading this very old edition of The Swiss Family Robinson to Thomas. He is really enjoying it. I am still reading Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling.

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week.

The baby blanket is almost done. Ralph has suggested it is for his race car bed, so that is probably where it will end up when it is finally finished. Yesterday, I cast on a smaller and more portable knitting project for a friend's young daughter. It should be easy and quick to knit. I have just recently started reading Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book Of Homeschooling . I am not very far into it, so I do not have much to say about it. I enjoyed the preface, and I am looking forward to reading the introduction tonight.

Back To School

August is here and everyone is talking about all things related to going back to school. Every where there are signs pointing to the best and most current items to send children back to school with. As a homeschooling mom, I try to stay away from the back to school section of the stores.

Please do not misunderstand me. I love buying crayons, notebooks, and pencils when they are most affordable, but the stress filled faces of parents and their children keep me away. I have no idea what is written on the lists that they carry with them, but from the frustration that I see and hear, it is obvious to me that the stores are out of it and the kids don't want it in that color anyway.
