Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week.

Since I finished the hat last week, I have cast on three new projects: a dishcloth, a scarf, and the mitten pictured above.

With Christmas around the corner, I am feeling the need to get a little gift knitting done. I have had several requests from friends and family for knitted dishcloths. The scarf is for my father-in-law. I think I will keep the mittens. The yarn is just so-so, and I do not like the way the garter stitch looks on the cuff, so I do not feel comfortable giving them as a gift.

The book everyone loves in the house right now is
Thanksgiving Is Here!, by Diane Goode. The illustration above is our favorite because it reminds us of our own holiday gatherings. The text is simple, and it can be easily read by young readers. The drawings are wonderful. Full of color and fun! There is so much to see and discuss. The story starts with Grandma and Grandpa, and gradually sons and daughters, aunts and uncles, babies and cousins, and friends all arrive. At first there is talking, hugging, knitting, music and dancing. Some people help prepare the food and the table for the meal. Then they wait for grandma to ring the dinner bell so they can go to the table to eat. After the meal, everyone cleans up, and then they rest or go for a walk while they wait for the dinner bell to ring again signaling the start of dessert. Finally, one last clean up, followed by loving good-byes and promises to come back soon. Thanksgiving Is Here! is a book that is enjoyable to read over and over again.
