Yarn Along

Yarning along with Ginny.

I had a bast in Maine with my family, and I managed to knit during some of our car time even though it makes it feel ill!

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week.

I am still knitting the Nevis Cardigan. I am really enjoying it. We are leaving in a couple days for a vacation in Maine. I am going to leave my Nevis behind, but I am casting on the Holden Shawlette to take on vacation.

While I knit I am listening to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, written by Anne Bronte.

Have a great week!

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along.

I am a very happy knitter right now. Last week I cast on the Nevis Cardigan. I only have a couple rows before I divide the body and sleeves. I am using Knit Picks Shadow Tonal in Gypsy. It is very vibrant! Unfortunately, my picture does not show how radiant it is.

I am listening to The Woman in Black, written by Susan Hill, while I knit. I love it!

Have a great week!

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week.

I have not posted a yarn along for several weeks, but I am still working on the tank top. I only have the front left shoulder to knit. Then I will just need to join the pieces and add the finishing touches, but I am trying to decided if I can knit up some sleeves to make this tank top a sweater. I have only knit one sweater. It was a top down baby sweater so I am not feeling very confident, but I think I will try. I believe I have enough yarn left to knit up 3/4 length sleeves.

I have not been reading much, but I have been working on A Marian Bible Study, written by Laura Marie Wells.

Peace to you!

Joining Ginny for Saturday Garden Journal.

Well, my garden has been growing for ten weeks now. My lettuce has been delightful. The strawberry plants are looking good, and I hope to get strawberries from them next year.

A couple months ago I found some Martha Stewart Crafts Extra Soft Wool Blend on sale for $1.75 a skein. I bought a bunch of it with the intention of knitting baby items.

Around the Yard
Everything is wet. It rained all day yesterday, and it was wonderful. The ground is soft, and the air has cooled down. It finally feels like April.

Garden ~ week one

Ginny at Small Things is hosting Saturday Garden Journal link-up. I love seeing what everyone is growing.

Chris has been busy working on the garden for the last several weekends. He added two garden boxes, and then cleared the ground around the boxes, put down weed paper, and added stone. He has promised me that he is not finished with the project. I made sure to tell him how much I appreciate all of his hard work, and I really do, but I do not love the stone yet. I trust him, so I am sure I will love it when it is finished.

Hey! It's my birthday!

Today is my 36th birthday.

Finding The Words

On Tuesday, March 20th, my grandfather passed away.
Saturday, March 17th, was the last time I was able to talk with him, see his smile, and hear his laugh. As I left his room, I kissed him and told him that I loved him. He said he loved me back.

Yarn Along

Wow! It has been several months since I linked up with Yarn Along.

I am almost finished with the scarf for my father-in-law. I have tassels to make and ends to sew in. I will be so happy when it is finished.

One game

I finally remembered to bring my camera to one of Holden's basketball games, but I did not check the batteries before we left the house. They were almost dead, and my camera kept turning off while I was trying to take pictures. I managed to take three not so good pictures.  Holden is number 20.

A little late

In the beginning of February, Stephanie, from Mostly Blue with a Touch of Pink, gave me a Liebster Award. Life has kept me away from the computer, so I did not read Stephanie's comment until weeks after she had left it for me. Even though it is several weeks late, I am still going to participate.

"Liebster is a German word, meaning dearest or beloved, but it can also mean favorite. The idea behind the Liebster Blog Award is that it is given to bloggers who have less than 200 followers in order to create new connections and bring attention to these wonderful blogs!"

I enjoy reading blogs that offer craft projects, book suggestions, and menu ideas. I also love blogs about life with boys. Here is my list of five blogs to check out:

1. Misty's Morning

2.The Bird's Nest

3.Between the Bobseins

4.Moments of Peace

5.wee little miracles

I hope you will take a minute to check out these inspiring blogs.

Thanks for including me, Stephanie.

Shame is Not the Answer

Shame is not the answer to childhood obesity. As an overweight child, I was ridiculed by adults and teased by other children.

I felt ugly and ashamed of how I looked. My negative self-imagine followed me into adulthood, and for many years I obsessed over the number on the scale and the size of my pants. My journey to self-acceptance and love has been a long and hard one.

These days, I exercise and eat wholesome foods because I want to be healthy and live a full and active life with my family. I teach my children about nutritious whole foods and the importance of keeping our bodies strong and active. I do believe that many health problems are a result of poor nutrition and lack of exercise, and I believe that the obesity in children and adults is a problem. But my life experiences have convinced me that no amount of shame or guilt will solve childhood obesity. Children need to feel loved and supported by their family.

We, the parents need to educate ourselves and pass what we have learned on to our children. We can no longer put our children's health into the hands of fast food restaurants and convenience food industry. We need to fill our homes with real food! Let's do it for our children because they deserve to live a long, healthy, and happy life.

Please head over to Kate Wicker's blog and read Maggie Doesn't Need a Diet or a Humiliating Billboard. It is Kate's article that inspired me to open up about my own body image issues.

An unplanned break from blogging

Well, hello there! It has been almost two months since I last posted here. It was not a planned blogging break. It just happened due to a serious lack of free time.
