Garden ~ week one

Ginny at Small Things is hosting Saturday Garden Journal link-up. I love seeing what everyone is growing.

Chris has been busy working on the garden for the last several weekends. He added two garden boxes, and then cleared the ground around the boxes, put down weed paper, and added stone. He has promised me that he is not finished with the project. I made sure to tell him how much I appreciate all of his hard work, and I really do, but I do not love the stone yet. I trust him, so I am sure I will love it when it is finished.

Strawberries are a new addition to our garden this year. The boys are very excited about growing our very own strawberries. Eventually, they will have their very own garden box, but this year I put them in a box with the romaine lettuce, red lettuce, and buttercrunch lettuce. In addition to the strawberries and lettuces, I planted brussels sprouts, string beans, eggplant, yellow onions, red onions, white onions, bell peppers, poblano peppers, and jalapeno peppers in the remaining garden boxes.

This year I added more herbs to the garden. Rosemary and lemon thyme grow all year long in the garden, and every spring I plant sweet basil, parsley, and cilantro. This year I added oregano, onion chives, and lavender.

I just had to share this picture of the white lilac bush because it makes me very happy!

Don't forget to visit Ginny and the other ladies that linked up with the Saturday Garden Journal!

  1. We don't have raised beds, in the dirt garden. I like the look of raised beds, but the Farmer has a tractor. It's too wet and cool yet to start the summer veggies. Our winter/spring crop is growing good.
PS I'm a little concerned about the evenness of the rocks and how they might feel if I had to kneel on them to weed, etc.

    1. Hi Leslie, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. The rocks are not even and the larger ones down the center are bothersome to walk on. As for weeding, I do not kneel to weed. I just bend over, and sometimes I rest my bum on the side of the box. Hey, in the dirt gardens and trackers are great! We just have a small yard in a neighborhood.

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to leave a friendly comment! :-)
