7 Quick Takes {vol 1}

1. Yesterday several friends and I drove into the Philadelphia to visit one of our favorite places, Ikea. I did not have much on my list to buy other than a couple packages of cookies and many chocolate hazelnut bars for the guys in my life, but when I saw the pretty pink napkins and the floral glass bowl, I just had to buy them. A girl needs a little pink in her life, especially in a house full of boys!

2. What is it about March that makes me want to start planning next year's curriculum? We have not even finished this year, but I can not help thinking about what I want to do next fall! I will have a senior in high school and that is both exciting and scary at the same time.

3. One of  my favorite things to do is ride around in my sister-in-law's 12 passenger van. Yes, yes, I know, it is not all that fun to many of you moms that have to do it every day of your life, but for me it is like a big family party van. This morning my three boys and I rode with her to our homeschool group meeting. Her older children go to Catholic school, but she teaches the younger ones at home. We do not fit in her van when she has all 8 of her children at home, so we love catching a ride when we can. Parrrty!

4. I think I am going to teach myself how to sew. I lost 40 pounds last year, and I have replaced most of my basic pieces of clothing. I have a very hard time finding skirts that look right on me, but I love to wear skirts. My husband suggested that I to sew a couple skirts. I told him he was crazy, but after thinking about it for several weeks, I am beginning to think that maybe he is right. Any suggestions for good books or websites to learn how to sew? I have a machine that I can use, but no knowledge of using it beyond what I was taught in 7th grade home economics.

5. A much cooler than I am friend told me about oil cleansing and shared this with me. Have you heard of it? Do you do it?  I started oil cleansing last week, and I love the results I am seeing and feeling on my skin. I mixed a cup of Castor oil, a cup and a half of  Grapeseed oil, and 10 drops of Tea Tree oil in a sports bottle. I think I may invest in a more pricey oil, like Argan oil, in the near future. Maybe for my birthday.

6. My birthday is next month. I will turn 37. I am not looking forward to it. Silly, I know, but I really am not looking forward to it. This is the first birthday that I have felt this way. I don't feel old, just restless. I hope this feeling passes.

7. I found this today under the lettuce and the cabbage. Ewww, just, ewww, and what a waste! We eat mostly plant based diet, so our fresh vegetables never go bad. Fortunately, we had more cucumbers because the boys and I really love them.

  1. #1: I agree--we moms of all boys do need a little pink in our lives. I have it in my formal livingroom.

    #3: We had a 15-seater Dodge Ram van for ages, so I just loved seeing your picture of all the boys in the big van! It brought back happy memories. Our van was like my home on wheels for many years. Our five boys are all grown up now (the youngest is a sophomore in college), so when it needed expensive repairs last year we decided to donate it to charity. It was sad parting with it. :(

    #4: I'm with you--I love skirts, but can rarely find ones the right length, style, etc. You modeled a great one on WIWS not long ago, a denim skirt that you said you'd gotten at Goodwill. Which is funny, because my favorite denim skirt is from Goodwill as well!

    #5: 37 is so young! Take it from this old lady!

    1. We had a pale pink dining room in our first house. I loved it! I am sure it was sad parting with your van. We have a minivan that is on its last leg. I am not looking forward to the day when we have to get rid of it.
      One last thing, you are not old! You are proof that boys keep a gal youthful! :)
