Fun with soap

I finally joined Pinterest earlier this week. Better late than never, I guess.

Yesterday, the boys and I made our first Pinterest project.

It was really neat, so we microwaved another bar of soap.
The bar of soap expanded into a fluffy white cloud. Then the boys smashed it.

Once they were done smashing it, I separated the soap crumbs into four smaller bowls. Then I added a little water and a little too much food coloring.
After they mixed the water and food coloring into the soap, the boys pressed the mixture into cookie cutters.
Now we have some seriously bright soap!

The one that looks like baked beans is a mixture of red and yellow food coloring. Not a good combination of colors for a bar of soap!

The boys had fun. Their favorite part was watching the bar of Ivory soap expand in the microwave.

  1. How fun! I'm sure the boys loved it. May have to try that here. : )

  2. Hi Erica, I'm visiting from FL&P. This is a really cool project, but I must admit I"m most interested in the green secretary desk (is that what it is?) in the background. So pretty. ;-)

    1. Thank you! Yes, that is a secretary desk. It was my grandmother's desk. She finished it that lovely shade of green in the 1960's or the early 70's (before I was born). I get compliments on it all the time and have had several people ask to buy it from me. My husband, on the other hand, has tried to throw it out a couple times!

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to leave a friendly comment! :-)
