In the garden ~ week 1

The strawberry plants that I planted last year are growing. I covered them with straw through the winter, following the instructions that I found online last fall. I was worried that they would not grow, but they look great!

In one garden box I planted 7 spinach plants, 4 Swiss chard plants, 4 kohlrabi plants, 11 romaine lettuce plants, and 7 buttercrunch lettuce plants. I planted sweet basil, cilantro, and spearmint in the pots next to the box.

I planted 3 buttercrunch lettuce plants, 3 red cabbage plants, 4 Golden Cross 45 day cabbage plants, 3 red lettuce plants, and 4 radicchio plants in another garden box.

I planted everything a little too close. I hope that I do not regret it later. There are so many things that I want to grow, but I have limited room in my boxes. In a couple of weeks, I will plant peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, and tomatoes in the two boxes that are empty.

  1. Ooh! We are just talking about what/how we want to plant. Sadly, the property next to us on one side has been vacant for a few years and the folks on the other side don't particularly care for their yard. We're no Joneses, but the weeds infiltrating make it burdensome to keep a garden even though the Hubs enjoys it and is home in the summer. I was just talking to him about a container garden, even on the same plot at our current one. Do you have any recommendations?
