Why I Love My Husband

Today I am happy to join Kaitlin at More Like Mary ~ More Like Me for the Why I Love My Husband blog series.

Kaitlin explains,

"So the purpose of these posts isn't to gloss over the difficulties of marriage and pretend like nothing ever goes wrong. The purpose is to rejoice in the special and wonderful things our husbands do for us, to give them a much needed pat on the back, and to brag about how great our "other half" really is. Save the negative stuff for a priest or trusted friend-not a ladies night out.

If you'd like to reject a culture that says it's acceptable to tear down your husband, join me with this blog series!"

Amen! It has become popular to expose one's husband as a lazy, sloppy idiot that does not deserve the respect of his wife or his children. It is very sad and unacceptable way to portray any person, especially one's other half.

So why do I love my husband? Let me share with you several of the many reasons that my love for Chris is abundant.

He knew that I was worthy of love before I did. When we first met, I was a very shy and hurting teenager. All the damaging words that had been repeated to me regularly as a child had me convinced that I was bothersome, stupid, ugly, and unlovable. He told me otherwise.

He is steadfast. He believed that I was valuable enough to keep in his life, but I did not. Trusting others does not come easy to me. I had built up thick, tall walls to keep him out. There were many times that I pushed and yelled, trying to get him to do what I knew he would do eventually, realize I was not good enough and leave me. But he never did. He didn't always handle my difficult emotions well. After all, we were young, trying to grow up together and figure everything out, but he was patient with me. He was dedicated to our relationship, and worked hard to keep us together through the early years.

Speaking of hard work, he works hard to support us every day. He has a very demanding job, and he only gets one day off from work a week. For example, yesterday he left our home at 8:00 am, and he did not return home until 10:20 pm. Then, he was gone again this morning by 8:30 am.When he is home, he is always on call, receiving phone calls from employees and alarm calls through the night. Some days, all the work gets him down, but he continues moving forward with a commitment that I admire.

He is an amazing father. He is supportive, affectionate, and playful. His work schedule is crazy busy, but he makes the time to be at almost every practice and game. He encourages the boys to work hard, be polite, and to do the job efficiently. He is a wonderful example to our sons of a man of faith.  He loves God and the Catholic Church, and our boys know it.

He takes his health seriously. He exercises daily and helps me plan healthy menus for our family. He wants to live a long, healthy life with me and our children and future grandchildren.

He makes me laugh hard belly laughs all the time.

God knew that Chris was the right person for me. We met when we were young and had a ton to learn about life and love. Our relationship hasn't always been easy, but it has been totally worth it. I love my husband. He is my best friend, and I thank God for him every day.

  1. Beautiful!! I loved this post.

This is a wonderful link-up. I've always been turned off by women who get together and slam their men. It's so nice to hear a good husband getting the praise he deserves.

It sounds like you've got a keeper there! :)

  2. What a wonderful tribute to your husband! He sounds like a terrific guy.

Honestly, I think our men really need to be reminded often why we love them so much. What a fantastic post! : )

  3. What an awesome guy. The part about your sons made me tear up a bit. Thanks for joining in!

  4. Wonderful post and tribute to your husband!
