Better Health: 20 Days Later

It has been twenty days since I wrote about the goals that I had made to better my health.

The Update
I stepped on the scale this morning, and it informed me that I gained five pounds! Ugh!

But! But! But! My prayer life has never been better. I consider that a huge step in the right direction. I have been making the time daily to sit quietly to pray and talk with God. I have been doing this several times a day, most days. I feel happy and hopeful. And that, my friends, is why I am smiling in that not so lovely picture you see there to the left.

Truly, I think this has been my most fruitful Lenten season ever.

At least, for my spirit.

Not so much for my body.

The New Plan
The good news is that there is still time for me to move forward in my steps towards better health. I am going to clean my diet up even more. I am going to start counting Weight Watchers points again. I know that my snacking is a bit excessive so I could give up eating between meals up, but I know counting points will keep all my portions under control.

7 Quick Takes (vol.14)

1. Want to win a bracelet made by a Saint? The giveaway is open through Monday, March 31st.

2. Thanks for all of the kind comments. I am glad you like the bracelets. Several people suggested that I should start an Esty shop. My husband has encouraged me to open one as well, but then I start researching it and I feel overwhelmed and nervous. I guess I need to continue to pray about it.

My Favorite Detox Bath Ingredients {Five Favorites}

I used to hate to take a bath. I did not find it relaxing. I thought it was pretty gross. Plus, I have sensitive skin, and I never found a bubble bath that left my skin feeling soft and refreshed. Then I read how beneficial a detox bath can be for my health and well being, so I decided to try it. I am so happy that I did!

Taking a detox bath after a long day helps me sleep better and, with some or all of my favorite ingredients, helps my dry, itchy skin feel calm and smooth.

Want to win a bracelet made by a Saint?

Well, it is my last name! Ha!

Recently I put together four bracelets with materials from my jewelry stash. I am in my fourth year of blogging here, so I decided to offer them as a giveaway to thank everyone for visiting and reading, leaving me kind comments, and offering encouragement.

I am not a professional, just a hobbyist.

I started making jewelry a little over a year ago because I wanted to give a few items as gifts for birthdays and special occasions. First, I searched the internet for tutorials and articles on the tools and the basic skills I needed. Then I made several purchases that seriously cut into my crafting budget (it is not a cheap hobby). Finally, I started assembling earrings, bracelets, and pendants and found that I enjoyed the process.

7 Quick Takes (vol.13)

1. I met with the pro-life Catholic doctor that I mentioned last week. She is awesome. I know that God wants me under her care. The bonus is that she has a woman come twice a month from Virginia to her office to teach the Creighton Model Fertility Care System. She will be at the office on Tuesday, and my doctor is trying to fit me in to see her. I am so excited!

2. Ralph lost two teeth. He was so happy to lose them. He is full of gaps in the front of his mouth now.

Oil Cleansing {Five Favorites}

When I was in the seventh grade, I developed acne. I was self-conscious about my acne, and I unsuccessfully tried to hide it with make-up. Finally, I visited a dermatologist my senior year of high school. His suggestion was Neutrogena face wash and no make-up, but if I must wear make-up then I should wear Clinique. Not exactly the advice I had anticipated.

I continued to suffer with acne as an adult. When I reached my twenty-fifth birthday, I no longer had patches of acne, but I continued to have occasional breakouts and excessively oily skin. By my thirty-fifth birthday, I was still dealing with blemishes, and I developed dry, itchy patches around my nose and on my chin. I tried almost every cleanser that could be bought at the store. I finally settled on a daily facial scrub with salicylic acid, and day moisturizer and a night cream, but my face always felt irritated.

One day a friend told me about how she had started cleansing with oil, and I was interested because oil is natural. I did my research, made my purchases, and started mixing oils in a small plastic travel bottle that I picked up at the store for under a dollar. I have been oil cleansing for over a year, and my face has never been better. My skin is clean and balanced.

My Steps Towards Better Health

1 Peter 5:10, "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."

Since January of last year, I have gained twenty pounds. I added twelve of those pounds since Thanksgiving.

Yay! A snow day!

We have had a lot of snow this winter in Delaware, but today is the first day I am calling a real snow day. I don't let the boys off from school work completely if their father still has to go to work. Today Chris gets to stay home with us all day! That gives him two days off from work, and bonus, they are in a row. That hardly happens! Right now, Chris and Ralph are outside shoveling the sidewalk and the driveway. Later, we have plans to drink hot chocolate, play a couple of board games, and watch a movie. We will enjoy our day with him. However, I hope this is our last snow fall of the season. I am ready to get out in my garden, to feel a warm breeze and the sun on my skin. While I have been ready for warmer weather for weeks, I am thankful for the snow today.
